About the Online Certificate of Māori Studies
The Online Certificate of Māori Studies, offered by the Awanuiārangi Tribal University, is a 16 week Māori language and culture course.
Taught by using the latest online interactive technology it's a great way to add value to your skills and organisation from the comfort of your home.
The Certificate consists of two levels (NZQA Levels 3 and 4) of courses that takes a total of 16 weeks to complete.
These courses may then be cross-credited to degree level Māori language courses (Levels 5-7) at Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi.

Secondary school and perspective tertiary students may also enrol in the Online Certificate of Māori Studies to gain Māori language credits towards the Bachelor of Humanities, Bachelor of Māori Performing Arts or Bachelor of Māori Tourism degrees.
For those who are looking to do a shorter (8 week) course that is non-assessed (i.e. no formal qualification) check out our Executive Māori Language Program (EMLP) in the Corporate section of this website.
The Online Certificate of Māori Studies gives you a basic understanding of the Māori language and culture, and prepares you for further study at a tertiary level.
As an NZQA accredited course, in order to successfully complete the certificate you need to earn 60 credits, with each module giving you 15 credits.
Resources are available for you to access on this website, and consist of interactive, online activities designed to complement the written resources and heighten the effectiveness of your learning.
